The couple chose the overlook of the 360 bridge as a second location. The sky was blue and the traffic was light We got a few fantasticly colorful images there…

Did I say colorful before?? Ok, well…things got even MORE colorful at the end of their shoot when they whipped out a bag of colored chalk and told me they wanted to throw it on each other. He he.

When I knew I would be photographing Elizabeth and her fabulous red hair, I visualized GRAY for her skirt. After constructing the first two skirts, I decided I was going to start ordering the tulle in bulk online. But then I procrastinated too much and didn’t have enough time to pre–order before Elizabeth’s session. It’s a good thing I’ve gotten so fast at making them! I headed to the fabric store on Friday and happened upon one last bolt of gray shimmer tulle. Behold, the final product:

Miss Elizabeth rocked it with her red hair and blue eyes! I couldn’t have asked for a smoother flowing shoot!  Also a shout out to Kendall of Mayhem Beauty who gave Elizabeth this killer hair (so glad to know I’m not the only one with an old-school crimper circa 1987) and amazing makeup!

I’m so thrilled to be booking these types of sessions–it’s been SO MUCH FUN thus far and I look forward to many, many more! Hope y’all don’t get sick of seeing them!

On the property is several amazing little cabins. The cabins can comfortably sleep about 12 people–but you could stuff many more in there! Here’s a shot of my bride, Laura, getting her hair and makeup done in one of the cabins by the fabulous Kendall of Mayhem Beauty.

Then we moved outdoors for some fun! Laura is a SUPER CREATIVE bride who really can do it all! She made those GIANT flowers out of paper herself, as well as her bouquet you see in the next set of photos—all paper! Fantastic!

This was one of the most emotional first looks I have ever captured! The groom was super taken aback by his absolutely STUNNING bride. Who wouldn’t be?!

Group photos were so much fun! The bride was a performer for a cruise line, so many of this couple’s bridal party were also performers…which makes for AWESOME picture-takers

The ceremony was beautiful. I cried. But then, that’s no surprise really because I cry at all of my weddings. But still…this one was extra beautiful. There was a part of the ceremony in which the bride and groom placed letters that they had written on the morning of their wedding day in a custom made box that also contained a bottle of wine. The box was hammered shut by the couple during the ceremony and it was announced that they would open it on their 5th wedding anniversary, and read each other’s letters over the bottle of wine. HOWEVER, if their relationship were to be in turmoil prior to that 5 year anniversary, the box may be opened early, and they would still sit together, read each other’s letters, and enjoy the wine. HOLY. TEAR. JERKER. This was something I’ve never seen done at a wedding ceremony and I think ALL newlyweds should do this. How incredibly powerful!

As the sun set at the Allan House, the venue was converted into an incredible reception!

Flash forward to the shoot day…

I showed up to the venue extra early to scout out the perfect spot and the perfect light. I had my earbuds in and I was jammin’ out to some Michael Jackson. I came around the corner and found THE perfect starting location right as Michael was bellowing “Don’t stop ’til you get enough”! Ohh my goodness. The structure, the light, everything. It was just so juicy. It was EXACTLY as I dreamed of it. I headed back to my car to meet my client who would be arriving any moment. While waiting, a bus was letting off a slew of elementary school kids on a field trip. Oh joy. Now I’m thinking about how much photoshopping I might have to do to get the curious kiddos out of my shot. While I’m pondering my kindergarten scare tactics, I noticed that my client probably couldn’t get in to the venue because the school bus was MAJORLY blocking traffic. Just as I was about to flag down the bus driver to let her know there were about 20 cars waiting…cruising up to the bus comes a groundskeeper on his golf cart. He was on a mission to move that bus (Extreme Home Makeover anyone? Anyone? Nevermind.) He began to instruct the bus driver to get out of there, and as he did, she backed into his golf cart…which then smashed into my car. The poor click-mobile. After about an HOUR of dealing with insurance, school police, city police, and both drivers–my deliciously perfect light was starting to become harsh and unpleasant. Noooo! This can’t be it! This day can’t be ruined!

And it wasn’t. It worked. I don’t know how…but it worked. And it worked well. Alas–the finished product :

The biggest shout out ever goes to my client, Yanci who COMPLETELY owned that tulle and rocked every.single.shot. ALSO–my INCREDIBLY talented makeup artist and hairstylist for completing the look JUST how I’d imagined it! THANK YOU Kendall from Mayhem Beauty. STELLAR job all around!

I can’t wait to continue working on this series. I’m finding that I’m a little obsessed with outdoor glamour.

This particular session was meant to be gifted to Miss “A”‘s main squeeze who is currently deployed and in need of some visual reminders of how incredible his girl is! Mission accomplished!

I’m so grateful for all of my incredible boudoir clients. It’s so amazing seeing the transformation from the time I meet them to the last shot of the day. Boudoir turns these women into empowered goddesses. And I get to watch it happen!

Happy Monday, y’all!!

I went a little nuts on the “preview” blog, yet again. So sue me.

When I walked into Tiffany’s cabin to capture some “getting ready” moments, I turned the corner and saw her dress hanging above the most amazine bathtub in the coolest bathroom, and it was beautifully backlit by the window behind it. The angels began to sing and I gasped. I didn’t even have to move the dress–it was the PERFECT spot for a shot.

The mood in the girls room was cool, calm, and collected…

…meanwhile with the boys…


Checkout the sweet hatchet that Ron gifted his groomsmen!!! Nice!

We arranged a “first look” so Ron and Tiffany could have a more private moment together before the ceremony…and it was incredibly sweet! Especially since Ron has been stationed in Missouri on Military duty…and he barely made it in time for the wedding!! He was delayed and ended up arriving around 7pm on Friday night!!

Ceremony time!! Tiffany is clearly superwoman! How else could she gracefully glide down this incredibly steep stone staircase in 4 inch heels??

The reception details were simply incredible!!

Tiffany, Ron, and their guests seemed to be having an amazing time! I’m so glad I got to be a part of it! More images to come!

Max Lawrence Trombetta was finally born on March 14th at 2:24am, weighing in at a solid 8lbs 8oz.

I would have never thought that choosing to do an all natural water birth would be viewed as more controversial than opting for drugs and induction in a hospital! I can’t even count the number of eyebrows raised at me or jaws I had to pick up off the floor when I said “actually…we’ aren’t going the hospital route this time around”.

My first son, Anthony, was born in a hospital. I was induced 1 week early for no particular reason other than it fit the doctors schedule and I was freaking uncomfortable. Being induced seemed like the norm and I didn’t even think to explore my options. 32 traumatic hours later, my son was born but I was too destroyed to be present and enjoy the moment. I don’t quite recall anything that happened in his first few days of his life. He struggled to eat, lost an unhealthy amount of weight, was very jaundiced, and pretty stressed out for being a newborn. Nothing about the process felt natural or beautiful to me. I knew that I needed to do something different the second time around.

Flash forward to March 2013. Holy uncomfortable. I was at a record- setting weight, in pain no matter what position I was sitting or lying in, and ready to have this baby already. Although my original due date was March 13th, I had been measuring 2 weeks ahead the entire pregnancy, and had signs that baby was ready to come out as early as mid February. I didn’t think there was any way possible that Max would hold out past March 1st. I cleared my schedule, prepped the nursery, and waited. And waited. And waited. Endless “You’re STILL pregnant?!” comments and 2 false labors later and it was my due date. I went to the Austin Area Birthing center for my 40 week prenatal appointment to find out that I was 4cm dilated and was told by my midwife that she would put money on me going into labor that night. Contractions started almost immediately after my appointment, and by 5:30pm I was headed in to the birth center with my husband and an empty carseat to give birth to our second child.

When I arrived, the environment was calm. There were no other moms in labor, and the birth center was otherwise closed for the day. I got into my super comfy robe, pulled up a movie on my iPad, and coasted through my contractions. When I wanted something to eat or drink, I helped myself. When I wanted to get up and walk, I did. When I wanted to soak in the birthing tub, I did. When I wanted all the lights off, we flipped the switch. I was not hooked up to an IV or any other monitoring devices. I was not told what to do at all. I did what felt natural and right. The contractions grew more and more intense as the night wore on, as they are meant to. I kept looking at the clock….I wanted so badly for the baby to be born on his due date (3-13-13 just has the coolest ring to it, right??).

I had decided that the birthing tub was the most comfortable place for me to be so that is where I settled and prepared to push when I felt the urge. My husband sat outside the tub and held my hand as I viciously squeezed his. Breathing turned to screaming, screaming turned to moaning, and moaning turned to swearing and crying. I had not a drop of pain medication and I felt absolutely EVERYTHING. Self doubt took over as I neared the very end of my labor. But then the urge to push overcame me….so I did. I began pushing around midnight. As the baby began to make his way through the birth canal, I got back on my knees and leaned over the edge of the tub. This, of course, made it difficult for my midwife and her assistant to see what was going on…but rather then tell me to go against what I was feeling and change positions, they grabbed a mirror and some flashlights and made it work. Not once was I corrected or told to do something other then what my body was telling me to do.

At 2:24am, Max Lawrence graced us with his presence. I was overwhelmed with relief and extreme exhaustion. He was placed on my chest, wide-eyed and calm. He grabbed my finger and looked around the room as we soaked in the tub together. It was so calm. It was a beautiful moment….and I remember every second of it unlike my first birthing experience. After several minutes, when the umbilical cord had its time to finish pumping its essential nutrients into the baby, Joe got to cut the cord. This was a proud moment as he wasn’t allowed to in the hospital with Anthony due to all the chaos and trauma going on. Joe held his son as I was helped out of the tub and cleaned up. We then moved to the bed where we all layed together for about an hour to have bonding time. The midwife then came and took Max very briefly to weigh him and check his vitals. His eyes weren’t filled with goop and he wasn’t tossed around roughly. He was brought right back to me where he nursed and slept on my chest for several hours.

When the sun came up, Joe headed out to find me a big breakfast to get my energy up again. He returned with an IHOP bag loaded with pancakes, eggs, and bacon…and I ate like I would never eat again. Labor takes a lot out of a girl

After making sure my vitals were stable for several hours straight, the midwife let me know I was welcome to head home whenever I felt ready. We opted to stay for a couple hours to nap, but then headed home with our sweet baby boy by noon. Recovering at home is so much more practical!

Though I know there are certainly circumstances in which a hospital birth is necessary, having done it both ways myself, I would like to encourage expecting mothers to explore their options at the very least. I am SO happy that I opted for an all-natural labor and water birth. Everything about it felt natural and the way things were meant to be. Women’s bodies are BUILT for this.

This first two weeks have been…..oooh I’m afraid to jinx myself…..easy. Max is a VERY easy baby thus far.

Actually the hardest part of having a newborn has been our 5 year old’s adjustment period. Anthony is a fabulous big brother and has been very helpful. He’s had a little trouble coming to terms with the fact that my time is spread thin. He is slowly feeling better about it all.

So there you have it!! I’ve been fielding a lot of questions about water birth and I’m happy to share more of my experience with you if you’re curious!!

It it such a blessing to be able to look back on that night and see all that was gone through to bring this little miracle into the world.
